“The Faces of Winter’s Arrival”

© 2012 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

I took a long hike yesterday through an area that I have only previoused cross country skied through.  It is fascinating to see the variation as winter gradually (surprisingly!) takes hold.  We haven’t had a serious snow yet, but in the shadows ice crystals lingered from a morning frost long past.  In the shallows, ice is beginning to form with fascinating patterns.  And in some places, there is still some standing water along the trails, where a variety of autumn leaves still retain some color because of the moisture.  I had a variety of detail images to share, so I assembled some of them here in a triptych to share.

Technical info: Canon EOS 5D MKII, Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 VC USD, Processed in Adobe Lightrom 4 and assembled in Photoshop CS5.  Thanks to Kim Klassen for the texture.
