“Orton in Autumn”

© 2012 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

I took this image back in October, but didn’t yet have the look that I wanted.  I was reminded of the “Orton” effect pioneered by Michael Orton, and thought, “that’s it!”.  OnOne Perfect Effects has some Orton styles, and I went for a combination of dreamy yet intense.  The blue cast allows the autumn leaves to really pop, and the Orton effect is (to me) complimentary to the movement of the water in this slightly longer exposure.  I’ve got some compression here from the long focal length (271mm).  I hope you enjoy this creation as much as I do.

Technical info: Canon EOS 5D MKII, Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VC USD, Processed in Adobe Lightroom 4 and OnOne Photo Suite
