Momentum

© 2013 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

I wanted to capture a sense of the movement of the rapids in relation to the ice floe, so I stopped the 70-300L way down (f/32) to enable a slow shutter speed.  The end result is pretty impressive for a handheld shot at 1/10th second shutter speed.  The detail on the ice even at 100% is perfect.  I have used OnOne Focal Point to reduce the depth of field and to add a bit of gaussian blur back in.  The finished image gives you a sense of the dynamics of high pressure rapids in the midst of winter in Canada.

Technical info: Canon EOS 6D, Canon EF 70-300L, Processed in Adobe Lightroom 4, Alien Skin Exposure, and OnOne Focal Point
