“Enter the Synagogue”

© 2013 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

One of the highlights in Capernaum is a well preserved synagogue. This particular synagogue was rebuilt over the top of the one that would have existed at the time of Christ, but that layer is visible in one corner where excavation has been done. The ruins of the very slightly newer synagogue (4th century) are remarkably well preserved, and this stands as one of the oldest existing synagogues in the world. The lines (as you can see here) frame up beautifully well.
