River of Gold

© 2014 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

I love winter images that feature reflections in water, in part because they are so rare around here.  We experience persistent cold temperatures, and the open water tends to close in fairly quickly.  Once the water freezes it becomes covered with snow.  Places where water is often look more like meadows of snow.  I was delighted to find this little ribbon on open water on the Petawawa River right about sunset.  The warm band of color stands out nicely against the white blanket of snow.
