“Starry Night over Algonquin”

© 2014 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

My family and I spent out last “free” weekend with friends camping in Algonquin Provincial Park. We had a great time, although we dealt with a lot of rain and thunderstorms for an unfortunate amount of the weekend (the tents stayed dry, though!!) On our last night the heavy cloud cover broke up somewhat, although the moments when the stars peaked through were still few and far between. I set up and waited (tripod and me set up on a submerged picnic table that was above the surface of the water by a few inches), however, and got this shot of the Milky Way reflected over Whitefish Lake.
