“Rain Keeps Fallin’ on My Head”

© 2014 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

I was desperate to shoot the stars while camping at Whitefish Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park a week ago, but instead got thunderstorms and torrential rain. So when the sky gives you rain…make long exposures. It was almost dark and raining hard, and so I set up underneath a big golf umbrella, used a graduated ND filter to balance the sky, and started shooting LE shots. This is one of those shots…straight out of camera. I used an LED flashlight to illuminate a bit of the foreground lilies to get this result in camera. I went to process this one but quickly realized that I really couldn’t improve on it.
