“Storm over Gaspè”

© 2014 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

The region of Eastern Quebec where the Saint Laurence River begins to merge with the salt water of the Atlantic has always been a magical, mystical place for me. I love the moody look of the distant Gaspè penninsula, as it is often shrouded in mist with light playing over it here and there. An early storm with a hint of winter was sweeping across as I was traveling through the province towards New Brunswick. I was compelled to stop and spend some in the freezing wind and spray capturing the battle of light and darkness over the distant shore. There is a faint smell of the sea here, and this lone tree in the foreground provided just bit of visual tension that I wanted to complete the image. My review of this amazing lens (the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 ART) will go live shortly, as will my “battle of the 50mms” as I put it up against two amazing Zeiss 50mms.
