“The Otus Bokeh Monster”
© 2014 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott
There is some irony here. This shot has a golden, warm glow. Feels almost like summer, right? If only the temperature would agree. It was about -6C/20F when I shot this as another cool snap has dropped our temperature once again. What isn’t a lie is the amazingly creamy bokeh created by the Otus. The distance to the other reeds was just a foot or so, and yet they are blown out completely. This shot was actually taken in the parking lot of a SportChek store, and these reeds are the planted in the divider in the parking lot. I thought this would be a pretty great example of how amazing optics and good light can turn just about anything into art.
