Starry Skies over the High Plains

© 2015 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

There are a limited number of lenses that do a great job at recording the night sky, but count the Zeiss Distagon T* 2.8/15mm as onr of the best. This scene is actually shot in the same setting as my shot of the San Francisco Peaks I shared two days ago, but in this shot it is the night sky that takes front and center. I used the available light from nearby buildings to light the foreground, and the mountains are just hinted at beyond. It shot this in the little community of Bellemont, Arizona, which has an altitude well north of 7000 feet. Clear skies = lots of stars, and other than the light pollution from the hotel I was staying at, I had a pretty great view of the stars above.
