“Queen of the Night”

© 2015 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

Today’s image is from the third member of this shootout – the Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD. It joins the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II and the EF 16-35mm f/4L IS in the competition for best wide angle zoom in a Canon mount. Yesterday these lenses faced off in a number of venues, concluding with a nighttime “shooting the stars” competition. As anticipated from previous tests, the Tamron 15-30 VC pulled off the best performance of the night due to its excellent sharpness wide open and fairly well controlled coma. Conditions were not perfect last night (my nightscape app gave the night only a 68%), but I still got some great images with all the lenses – but the best were clearly from the Tamron – the queen of the night.
