Bokehlicious (Tamron SP 85mm f/1.8 VC)

© 2016 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

The Tamron 85 VC sets the bar a little bit higher for bokeh from the SP Prime series. I can’t really see anything to criticize from the bokeh, which stays nice even when stopped down (you can see versions of this image at f/2, f/2.8, and f/4 in the image gallery here: It has a lot of the qualities that I love about vintage lenses in the rendering, but with all the sharpness of a modern lens. That makes it pretty special…and pretty bokehlicious. You can see my first look video where I break down the size, build, and handling of the lens here:

  1. David Woods says:

You have the Canon 85mm f/1.8 to test it against? Love to hear how the Canon stands up.

  2. revabbott says:

I’m afraid I no longer have a copy. I can safely tell you that the Tamron destroys it, though.
