“Lit By Lightning”

© 2016 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

This is a unique image for in that the only light source here is from a pulse of lightning through the clouds. I shot this at nearly 11:30 at night, and it was otherwise pitch black out. For this split second, though, the whole scene was lit by a giant strobe filtered through the clouds. You can see how deeply crushed the shadows still are, but the bay comes alive with the reflected light. You can see a bolt on the right side of the image. This is Pleasant Bay in Prince Edward County, Ontario. It’s amazing how unique lighting conditions can produce very unique images. Right time, right place.
