I have been rediscovering my love affair with a tiny old lens that has no electronics, no auto-focus, and where you become familiar with what an aperture really is as you open and close it manually. The lens: an SMC Takumar 55mm f/1.8. Unlike many old lenses, it actually has almost no quirks. It has good flare resistance, is very sharp, has good contrast, and, most of all, produces really beautiful color. I was riding my bike out on a country road when I saw this little patch of wildflowers in the moss. I quickly came to stop and headed over with my camera. This was one of the four frames I took. I love the ability of a wide aperture lens to create an intimate little world where something tiny like this blossom can step onto a grand stage of beauty. If you ever decide to start trying out old M42 lenses, this is a great place to start!
