Hi, I'm Dustin Abbott, and I'm here to answer a question that I get asked literally every week multiple times
0:17
I've probably answered it over 100 times at this point, and that is those of you that are asking
0:22
what is this little tripod that I have on my table when I am displaying gear
0:27
Now, you know, typically I am not dominating the table like I am with this
0:32
This is just more for illustrative purposes here today. But the reality is that many people are very intrigued by what is very obviously a very useful item
0:42
Now, also, I should note that I get equal amounts of concern over whether or not something is about to fall off the table when I have it like this
0:51
And I will note that I'm sitting at a circular table. So sometimes things look closer to the edge of the table than what's
0:57
they actually are. But the answer to the question of what this tripod is, is this is the
1:02
Oban CTT-1000. It is a carbon fiber tabletop tripod. And so a tabletop tripod, as you probably know
1:10
is not a replacement for a standard tripod, but rather is one to be used in a setting like this
1:17
Well, maybe not so much like this. I mean, this does support up to 11 pounds, but the reality
1:22
is you're probably not buying it to support something like this. though as you can see it has no problem in doing that But rather what is more likely at least for me and my actual applications is I am far more likely to use this little tripod for macro work Where very often I might actually have something on the table
1:42
and so I've got a little macro lens here and extending this down
1:46
And then the most useful trick here is the fact that you can easily bring yourself down to a position
1:54
where you are at a maximum or a minimum height, I should say, of 4.2 inches
2:00
And then with a fully flexible and very good quality ballhead on this, you have the flexibility to really get close, set yourself up to get close to a macro type object and to use for that
2:13
Now obviously, for me, the primary way that I use it is for putting things on for photographing, be it cameras or lenses
2:20
And then, of course, for display purposes, very useful for that. I do really love a ball head
2:25
It comes with an Arcaswis-compatible ballhead and a quick release plate, though, you know, as you know
2:30
As you probably know, in many of my cameras, I have got them set up to where I've got a peak design anchor point under there or capture plate where I can throw it right on there and quickly go to work on that
2:44
So to give you a few quick specs on the little tripod itself, as noted, maximum payload is 11 pounds, which, by the way, is enough to support most camera and lens combination outside of the truly extreme
2:56
And so as you saw with the Sony Alpha 1 and the 200 to 600 millimeter G lens not a small combination but obviously was nowhere near stressing the payload limits of the combination You can go to a maximum height of 15 and a half inches though I will note you can also get it with a center column where you can quickly take off the
3:17
ball head. You can add the center column, and you can go up a basically another 10 inches to
3:22
about 28 inches. I actually have that column. I went to look for it. It's somewhere, and if I
3:27
looked hard for it, I could find it, but obviously I don't use it very often for my own configuration
3:32
I said 10 inches actually adds 12 inches in height, getting you up to about 20
3:36
28 inches in total. The folded down length is 10.4 inches and it weighs under one pound. And so you're
3:43
obviously talking about something that is extremely compact and extremely useful. And of course
3:47
the fact that it's carbon fiber, it is very lightweight. Now, this is truly a long-term review
3:53
I have been using this for, as you know, from seeing it on my videos for a very long time. And I can
3:58
say that it works as well, all of the various locks and extensions. It all works as well as when I
4:05
started using it a long time ago. It is something that holds up very, very well. I believe it has
4:10
a five-year warranty on it. And so this is a extremely well-made product. Now, I will say this
4:16
not every open tripod that I have tested or used have I been blown away by. This seems to be a
4:21
cut above in that it's not just carbon fiber, but it is very high quality. The connection points
4:27
are high quality, rubberized feet. Everything here is really, really kind of surprisingly sturdy
4:33
You know, and if I try to put tension on those joints, I get very little flex
4:37
This is a very well-made little product. And I note that it not just me that really likes it There are something well over 150 reviews that average out to five stars And so this is something that people really really like And on top of that it is really inexpensive If you
4:54
looking for a product to get a family member or to get yourself in the holiday shopping season
5:01
you can get this little tripod right now for about $90. US. And for the kind of quality you're
5:08
getting here, that is a really good price for it. It's something
5:12
that is extremely useful if you're a macro photographer, if you're someone that, you know, maybe
5:16
sets up on a table or you're wanting it to support a camera for other purposes, for video
5:22
all of those different things. It is genuinely useful. And if you're looking for something like
5:27
this, I can say now having used it for a long time, it's very, very well made. I really like it
5:32
And so for those of you that have asked many, many times, what is that little tripod on your
5:36
table? The answer is it is the Oban CTT 1000. I'm Dustin
5:42
Abbott and I will throw buying links in the description down below if you are interested in getting
5:46
one of those for yourself and I will say for the record I have never had any of the gear that I've
5:53
displayed on my table fall off the table and I know that many of you have been freaked out by that
5:58
before it's never happened yet and I pray it never does. Also in the description you can find
