hi I'm Dustin Abbott and I'm here today to give you my review of the vro air series 25 mm
0:17
f1.7 my late winner for the budget apsc lens of 2024 which you can see in my
0:22
2024 da Awards was actually the vro Air 35 mm f1.7 the air series and I'm
0:29
showing the PSC models here is vtr's lineup of simple yet tough lightweight
0:35
lenses that come with an inexpensive price tag usually around 175 bucks but with a surprisingly robust Optical
0:43
performance and really that's been true across all three of these the 56 mm came first then the 35 then the 25 they've
0:49
kind of been working in backwards order but really all of them have been really exceptionally optically and the newest
0:55
in that series is the 25mm f1.7 and it is frankly it is awesome I've been
1:02
impressed repeatedly during the part of my review and just kind of Blown Away by how good an inexpensive like lens like
1:08
this can be so today I'm going to share with you why the air 25mm f1.7 is
1:15
probably the best widish we'll get to that in a moment Prime that you can get for your apsc camera under $200 we'll
1:23
dive into all that right after a word from our sponsor today's episode is brought to you by Phantom wallet the minimalist
1:30
modern wallet that is now even better with the new Phantom X that is crafted from aluminum right here in Canada it is
1:37
22% smaller and 35% lighter while still making it easy to access your cards and
1:42
money when you need them thanks to their unique Fanning mechanism you could even customize your wallet due to its modular
1:49
design with accessories like a money clip cash holder ID display and even chipolo and air tag tracking integration

2:12
out so let's start by taking a look at the build and handling 25 mm is a bit of an odd focal length it plays out to uh
2:21
to 37 12 millim on the various apsc platform it's available for I'm
2:27
reviewing it on Sony emount but it is available in Fuji or will be available in Fuji X Mount and then also in Nikon Z
2:34
Mount and so um you know it's not it doesn't correspond kind of perfectly to the 35 mm focal length that's what 23 mm
2:43
the role that 23 MIM typically plays on apsc I kind of Wonder after the release
2:48
of the 56mm f1.7 they already had an existing 56 mm
2:54
f1.4 and here we had this kind of contradiction in which the faster apture
3:00
lens was actually the worse lens optically this lens had fewer features
3:05
but yet in many ways it is the better lens and I wonder after that confusion Market confusion that would create for
3:11
those that maybe are a little less informed than what you might be someone who obviously watches reviews that maybe
3:16
it made more sense for them than rather than having a 23 33 and 56 mm kind of
3:22
typical lineup they've instead altered these the formula on these two lenses a little bit to where we've get 25 mm and
3:29
35 mm maybe thinking that that makes a little bit more sense for the market to
3:35
understand either way it doesn't correspond perfectly to 35 mm but frankly it's kind of in a pretty decent
3:41
spot I actually found the focal length to be a lot of fun to be to use out in the real world like all of these air
3:47
series lenses which are pretty much identical other than the change up from the initial Hood to what we see now on
3:53
the 25 and 35 millimeter lenses they are all Plastics but you can tell that they
3:58
are tough Plastics that's true even of the lens Hood itself it's thick um it doesn't Flex it's obviously wellmade
4:05
these lenses although they're lightweight they do feel really tough you can squeeze anywhere and it just
4:11
feels like it's a very rigid construction the series in general kind of reminds me of samyang's tiny series
4:17
but the actual Plastics that are used here feel much much tougher and more durable I could always squeeze say like
4:23
the I love the 45mm f1.8 I still have it years and years after its uh
4:28
introduction however you can squeeze on that thing and it'll Flex all over the place it feels kind of cheap these lenses really
4:35
don't um all around they are built around a metal lens mount as well and so they have they're tough and they're
4:41
durable now f1.7 kind of like the focal length f1.7 is a little bit of an odd
4:46
maximum aperture you don't often see f1.7 lenses but essentially where it falls is that it is one half stop slower
4:54
than f1.4 the the full stops are f1.4 and F2 so halfway in between that is
5:00
actually f1.7 the more typical kind of Maximum apture you would see for a lens
5:05
like this would be f1.8 f1.8 is 2/3 of a stop slower than f1.4 this is one/ half
5:11
stop so it's it's not a big difference but it is going to be brighter and frankly that is one of the advantages
5:17
that a lens like this has relative to some of the competition who will have a an f1.8 aperture is you're going to get
5:24
just a little bit faster shutter speeds just a little bit more blurred out backgrounds uh it works
5:30
and so I and obviously it's been the formula that they've stuck with through this you can see that particularly if
5:36
you eliminate the actual lens hoods here these lenses are really very very
5:42
similar in their overall size they all have essentially the same exterior Dimensions uh which is 64 mm in diameter
5:51
and then they're 54.4 or 50.3 or 54.5 you know all within a fraction of a
5:57
millimeter of each other and so that is 2 .6 in in diameter by 2.15 in in length
6:03
the weight here is 170 G or uh that's 6 o which makes it pretty much identical
6:09
to the 35 mm and just like a gram lighter than what the 56 mm is of course
6:15
Optical elements would be a little bit larger in the 56 mm lens all of these share a 52mm front filter thread making
6:22
them kind of triplets in terms of their appearance but I love the filter sharing because it means you can buy one set of
6:28
filters and use it across all three lenses it does come with a little pouch for storage and again it's not a huge
6:35
amount of protection value but to be fair I mean this is a very very inexpensive budget lens and so to get
6:42
any kind of pouch is kind of a welcome addition the barrel itself like all
6:48
these lenses has no feature no aperture ring that's going to be a big loss particularly for Fuji Shooters all you
6:54
have is the manual focus ring here there's no switches no buttons nothing like that so it is featureless on the
6:59
outside there are nine rounded blades inside and that produces an 18p pointed
7:05
Sunstar when stopped down as you can see here on the actual uh Mount there is a
7:11
USB C Port there that can be used very simply for doing firm or updates and I have found the process to be pretty
7:18
seamless with vro lenses so that's great of these three lenses the best of the bunch for minimum focus and
7:24
magnification was actually the 35 millimeter 25 millimeter is a little bit
7:29
regressed from that it has a minimum Focus distance of 30 cm and it has a
7:34
maximum magnification of 0.11 times by the way the 23mm f1.4 vrox lens it
7:41
already existed it also has a minimum Focus distance of 30 cm but a little bit lower magnification because it is 2 mm
7:49
shorter in focal length 23 mm versus 25 mm the air series does not have a
7:55
weather sealing gasket but what it does have is an HD Nano multi layer coating on the front element that gives you some
8:02
protection from scratches but also from moisture and oils antifouling they call it and so I mean not weather sealed but
8:10
again it's there's also not a whole lot of Ingress points on the lens itself so
8:15
I probably would use it definitely have used them in light rain and have been fine there but you know you're going to
8:21
have to test your own limits so overall these have no bells and whistles but
8:26
they are nicely made manual focus is actually quite good here there's a good amount of damping I found good Precision
8:32
when focusing on Sony I find when focusing on Fuji this isn't an XF Mount here Fuji focus and it has more to do
8:39
with the focus system it tends to focus more in little blocks whereas this is a little bit more of a smooth linear but I
8:45
am assuming that if you got the emount version of the 35 mm it would be the same in terms of that nice smooth linear
8:52
process with all of these I found that the overall damping on the the focus ring itself is good and I like the feel
8:58
of it so I mean nothing fancy here but again the price tag is $179 you can get it even less by using a
9:06
coupon code that is referenced in the description down below so I mean obviously that's a huge value
9:11
particularly when as we're going to move ahead for a lens that is really really high performing so let's talk about
9:17
autofocus for Stills like all of these it uses a lead screw type STM Focus
9:23
motor again I see benefits from testing on Sony here because Sony's autofocus system is more sophisticated than it is
9:29
on Fuji so this lens feels better in terms of autofocus compared to the 35 mm
9:34
I'm sure in real life the difference is probably minimal if you're doing e-mount versus emount or X mount versus x-mount
9:41
so on Sony the focus is very Snappy as you can see here very quick major Focus changes that are very close to
9:47
instantaneous both indoors and Outdoors plenty of focus speed for all the situations I used it I think it would be
9:53
perfect for Street I found for example in this few shots here where I came from behind a P I've been shooting some video
10:00
came around and wanted to just snap a shot um there in this walkway and focus
10:06
was instantly just there and nailed no hesitation I could just take an instant shot and and so uh great responsiveness
10:13
on that point I found that autofocus was accurate in general whether it was shooting human subjects um like in these
10:21
shots or shooting animal subjects great results there and then of course just shootting shooting some
10:27
three-dimensional real world objects again Focus was no problem I even took some shots in a sequence of Nala moving
10:34
and what I found is that while it kept up pretty well it wasn't perfect but it
10:40
did seem to be able to keep up with that on Sony I found that on Sony I am able to track action reasonably well uh Fuji
10:48
more limited and I'm assuming that zount is going to fall somewhere in between those two I haven't actually tested any
10:54
of these particular lenses on zount however I have tested the fullframe 20 mm f2.8 and fullframe 40mm f2.5 also
11:02
from the air series and they focused well on Z Mount and so I'm not expecting any kind of issues
11:09
there now when it comes to the video side of things I found mostly good
11:14
results autofocus pulls here are relatively fast smooth without any kind of visible steps I do see a little bit
11:21
of a micro pulse at the end a micro adjustment as it settles particularly on that foreground object and so I would
11:27
like that to be smoothed out my hand test did go well I felt like the transition from the hand to the eye for
11:34
a budget lens did really quite a good job so no concerns there actually my only negative that I saw is in this shot
11:42
of Nala kind of moving towards her I found that while focus is actually fine
11:47
it is doing a little bit of micr pulsing which you can see in the background where it's not quite settling and uh
11:53
just being a little jittery and so I didn't love that however I did notice in static shots where the subject wasn't
11:59
moving and I wasn't moving with the camera I didn't get that they were nice and stable so overall I just in general
12:06
I would say the autofocus was good so how about image quality I'll give you the overview the breakdown here and then
12:13
we'll go into the deep dive at the conclusion of the video for those of you that are so inclined Optical formula
12:19
here is 12 elements in 10 groups like all these lenses there's a surprising amount of exotic elements and so in this
12:25
case we've got five total including extra low dispersion aspheric and high refractive index elements that are part
12:31
of that that produces an MTF that is surprisingly good you can see it's very
12:38
consistently flat across the image frame uh comparing the mtfs on all these
12:43
lenses I find that the 25 mm looks a little bit better than the 35 mm and a
12:49
hair worse than the 56 mm but all three of them are really excellent very good
12:54
contrast very good uh detail and a really consistent performance edge to edge and that's true here as well so I
13:01
mean really really great now as always when I have an Em Out version I'm always just kind of interested in seeing how it
13:08
does in terms of full frame coverage in this case the answer is surprisingly decent uh you can see that there's
13:15
definitely some very hard mechanical vignette near the edges of the frame but it doesn't intrude very far into the
13:21
frame and so if I crop all of that out for example here I'm actually ending up out of an A7 R5 out of 61 megapixels I'm
13:29
ending up with 48 usable pixels out of that you could safely say without any
13:34
kind of vignette at all you get easily 45 megapixels and so you're really not using a ton of of image space in fact in
13:42
this shot I shot full frame and because the edges are already kind of darkened you can kind of get away with it without
13:48
any kind of crop and if I crop it in just a little bit to about 49 megapixels you can see that it is fine what's more
13:55
I found that if I looked at in my crop even in those far Corners not only are they not covered by vignette it's
14:01
actually being resolved fairly well and so uh definitely usable for those of you that might want to play with this lens
14:07
for a few other applications and obviously because you're eliminating those corners for video work if you're
14:13
shooting like uh even if you're shooting full frame or a minor crop like a you
14:18
know a 1.2 times crop or whatever you're actually going to be able to get pretty much full frame coverage or you know APS
14:26
H type coverage out of the lens pretty easy easily so anyway for your consideration I found that the vignette
14:34
was low here I there is a little bit amount of barrel Distortion but I only needed a plus4 to correct and you can
14:40
see in this shot with a lot of straight lines and zero correction it looks fine
14:45
uh and so I was pretty impressed by that there's a moderately heavy amount of VG yet it's a plus 65 to correct so a
14:51
little over two stops you know nothing severe I found very very little fringing in my test that's something that really
14:58
I feel feel like they've done just so well that there is uh such good
15:03
correction of aberration on all of these lenses and so very little fringing to see uh in real world or in my charts
15:10
also very little lateral chromatic aberration near the edge of the frame as I begin to look at resolution and so I
15:16
am looking at Sony at 26 megapixels that's the resolution Point here and looking at a 200% magnification in these
15:23
crops you can see that there's really consistent performance center mid-frame and right off into to the Far Corners
15:30
furthermore I found that unlike the recent um TTR Artis 23mm f1.8 that I
15:36
review there's very good centering in this vro lens both sides look great very
15:41
consistent all four corners in fact look consistently good now we saw on the MTF chart that there's not a lot of room for
15:49
improvement as you stop The Lens down what I did find is that I get a very slight contrast boost when I'm stopping
15:56
the lens down so a little bit better at f2 than the was at f1.7 a little bit better at f2.8 and then four and 5.6
16:03
being about the same f8 all being about the same you're getting very good consistent sharpness for Landscapes so
16:10
for example in this shot shot on a very cold day while ice was forming along the river you can see that in the middle
16:17
crop it looks good but then all the way up into the upper right corner lots of fine details to be resolved in all those
16:22
bare trees and it resolved really really well so does it's a great very sharp little lens defraction will start at f11
16:31
and become more pronounced at F-16 obviously if you're shooting at higher resolution points like Fuji's 40
16:38
megapixel you'll see stronger defraction at both f11 and F-16 than what we see here on Sony since vrs changed their
16:45
Optical glass they changed it for all of their lenses including these inexpensive air series lenses and so I find that
16:51
they now produce really really nice color and so I shot in a um an art museum it I felt like the gallery I got
16:59
really good shots in there just in general purpose shooting I got really nice colors even this Moody shot shot of
17:05
parliament on a crazy cold day and you can see it in the shop but even the colors themselves they look just kind of
17:12
cool I like the look of the image I like what I'm able to produce furthermore the obviously with a 25mm lens the maximum
17:20
apture of f1.7 on apsc you're not going to get crazy shallow depth of field and
17:26
so you're not going to get a strongly diffused def focused background but I do find that the bouquet quality is
17:32
actually quite good you can see here with specular highlights that while there is some deformation at f1.7 if you
17:38
stop down even to f2.5 you got nice circular nice round Boke balls all across the frame and I also find that in
17:46
just other shots where the background is just blurred out it doesn't look jittery again it's not always strongly blurred
17:52
out but the actual quality of the blur looks quite good I also find that the
17:57
micro contrast is really amazing for such a budget lens furthermore I saw good results when in resisting flare
18:05
with little issues with Flare artifacts or loss of contrast and even when shooting the night sky I saw coma was uh
18:12
not non-existent but low enough that you really wouldn't notice it so overall a really strong Optical performance so my
18:19
conclusion is this I think that the air series is really hitting a sweet spot for a lot of buyers they're confident
18:26
they're lightweight and at such a low price point Point makes them really useful they're the kind of lenses that
18:31
you are happy to reach for because you can put it into your bag without adding a lot of weight or taking up a lot of
18:37
space and if you actually use them you're getting results that feel like they're from a lens that is several
18:44
degrees higher in in price the performance the price to Performance ratio is fantastic with the air series I
18:51
would say it would be really hard for me personally to consider a lens like the TTR Artis AF 23mm f1.8 actually like the
18:58
lens that lens it has a lot of character but this lens is just so much better on so many levels that it's just it would
19:05
be hard for me to buy that and certainly it'd be really hard for me to justify on the Fuji space spending basically two
19:12
and a half times as much for the Fuji 23mm F2 yes that lens does have an
19:18
apture ring and it had weather ceiling but this lens is actually better optically it's got a faster autofocus
19:25
motor it's got a faster maximum aperture and it costs so little and so that's going to be a really compelling option
19:31
there it's a great addition to the air series The 25 35 and 56 millimet lenses
19:38
are all great and I hope vrox has got more up its sleeve in this series a nice
19:44
wide angle would be really great maybe a longer lens you know something around 90
19:49
or 100 millimeters with even if they slow the app apture f2.8 it'd be pretty cool so anyway I'm looking forward to
19:56
what they have to offer in the future you want more information you can check out my text review that is in the description down below there's
20:03
buying links there also links to an image Galler if you want to see more photos and now if you want a deep dive
20:09
into the optical performance stay tuned let's jump into it together all right let's start by taking a quick revisit of
20:16
the fullframe coverage here so on the left side I have what would be the typical apsc crop and so you can see on
20:21
the right side there's a lot of extra image that is there if you shoot on the full frame you can also see however
20:27
there is what we call this hard or a mechanical vignette where you can see that there is part of the image Circle
20:33
image frame that is just fully obscured and so nothing can be recovered in that
20:39
corner I mean there's just no light that's reached the sensor however I if I crop most of that off you can see
20:45
there's a little bit of darkening here but I could correct that through standard vignette correction and furthermore we can see that if you're
20:52
looking in here while the resolution isn't perfect in this area it is still resolving that part of the image and so
20:58
doesn't look too bad at all likewise in this shot where I've actually cropped in a similar kind of way you can see that
21:06
this corner looks plenty bright no issue there furthermore we can see if we zoom into here that while maybe this isn't
21:14
fully resolved here I mean it's still decent you can see just a little ways in that we actually have really good
21:20
resolution and in the image itself if we kind of pan through it you can see that the resolution actually looks really
21:26
fantastic up there so I mean right here to the edge of the frame it's dropping off some a little bit right near the
21:32
edge of the frame but frankly that's I mean that's still better than a lot of competing lenses in the corners even
21:38
though we're going much further out into the corner like this area right here seems to be resolved quite nicely so
21:43
anyway uh it's it's definitely worth considering if you shoot it on a full-frame camera there is at least some
21:49
potential there if you're in a situation where you need wider Framing and you don't mind doing a little work in post
21:54
to crop some of it out now in terms of vignette and Distortion you can see here that there is a mild amount of barrel
22:00
Distortion not strong at all uh it's you know you can see it bulges a little bit but the lines are still relatively
22:06
straight and because it's linear you can see it corrected very easily this is a plus five here on the right vignette is
22:13
heavier there in the corners but again it's pretty easy easily correctable a plus 65 corrects all of that so a little
22:20
over two stops nothing too bad this shot right here has had zero correction so there's obviously a lot of geometry in
22:27
this a lot of lines and I'm sure that if you looked very carefully you might find
22:32
some evidence of barrel Distortion but as I'm sitting here looking at it I don't really see it and so overall it
22:39
goes to show you that this is a lens that can be used for those straight lines without a lot of concern or need
22:45
need for correction likewise vro has been killing it when it comes to their correction of aberration and so even in
22:52
this very inexpensive lens There is almost no longitudinal style chromatic aberration there here we can see very
22:59
very good contrast even up close here and as we look towards the defocused
23:05
area I mean there's tiny bits of uh chromatic aberration a little bit of green fringing in some of this Zone but
23:11
again not enough to really negatively impact the image and so again great job there lateral style chromatic aberration
23:18
yes you can see there is a little tiny bit here uh for the most part however it's a pretty clean correction and if I
23:25
take this image real world shot and I look up in this area in the real world where I'd really expect to see the
23:31
fringing you can see here along the edges of the frame particularly around these bare branches ah there's just
23:36
really nothing to see so not a problem now typically when you're seeing low amounts of aberration and then also very
23:43
good contrast can expect to have pretty crisp results on a chart test and that is what we see Center is looking very
23:50
good this is 26 megapixels on Sony 200% magnification mid-frame also looking
23:56
very strong there and as we work down this way we can see pretty consistent between upper left and lower right right
24:03
down into this corner looking actually really really strong if I look over on the left side looking strong upper left
24:10
corner looking great even right off into this Zone here and then the upper right
24:15
corner we can see also looking really fantastic a really incredibly consistent performance from such an inexpensive
24:21
lens here's a quick snap uh shot here just almost from the hip and you can see
24:27
again F1 .7 detail is just really crisp there uh if we zoom into the image
24:32
itself in the shot of Nala here you can see number one quite a nice fall off
24:37
here the background is not strongly to focus but the transition from very very sharp in Focus very high contrast and
24:44
then the overall fallof it actually falls off quite nicely again for such an inexpensive lens now because the lens is
24:51
so good wide open means that there's not a ton of room for improvement stop down that being said you can see how much
24:58
darker the shadow area looks here at f2 compared to at f1.7 and likewise with
25:04
the text which looks a little bit darker and crisper if we look up in this Zone you can look at here it just again the
25:11
darks being darker allows there to just be more contrast and thus the details to pop off the page a little bit more if
25:18
you look at the writing right through here it's you know a little bit uh a little more kind of hazy there and a
25:24
little bit crisper here so definitely some improvement though it's not m massive likewise if we stop on down to
25:30
f2.8 you can just see that that same pattern kind of holds there's just a little bit more contrast and if I look
25:37
at a similar Bill up here in the upper left corner you can see that again that
25:42
the detail is just getting crisper the writing is standing out more if you look at the Canada here at f2.8 it just pops
25:49
a little bit more and speaking of Canada here is Canada's parliament buildings which are under construction this is the
25:56
Parliamentary Library uh you can see even though I'm shooting through glass and I shot at f2.8 to avoid any of the
26:02
imperfections of the glass you can see so this is obviously not Peak sharpness but you can see that it looks really
26:09
quite quite good all throughout the image there's lots of detail you know a lot going on in this particular scene
26:15
but everywhere I look I can see good detail that's been captured even at f2.8 from f2.8 to F4 we can see a little bit
26:23
more boost of contrast in the corners here and even from f Ford
26:29
f5.6 contrast is very slightly improved but I think that just the overall detail
26:35
is maybe just a hair better and then f5.6 to f8 I would say that f5.6
26:40
probably represents a peak and there's just the mildest drop off at f8 again
26:45
turning to the real world shot here for a moment this is f5.6 and so it just means that at landscape type images you
26:52
can look anywhere in the frame up here in this upper left corner you know detail is really really good right off to the edge of the frame and likewise
26:59
here uh you can see the same thing and it becomes apparent when we have looked at the full frame image to realize that
27:05
this lens can actually resolve pretty well even outside of what's being cropped here by the apsc crop and so
27:12
that means that its performance they've kind of over engineered it a bit which is great which means that you're going to get really strong performance right
27:18
to the edge of the frame so we'd seen a mild softening at f8 that in continues
27:23
due to defraction at f11 as you can see f11 just contrasts a little bit lower and then 16 minimum apture you can see
27:29
it looks you know considerably softer maximum magnification as we've already noted is not particularly High however
27:36
the Redemption here is that contrast and detail is really strong even up close and we can see a fairly flat plane of
27:43
focus so not bad in that regard I did find that up close images had nice
27:48
detail on them here you can see wide open that you're going to get some of the lemon type shape to the bouqu um as
27:56
it squeezes near the edge of the frame stopping down a little bit here at f2.5 you can see that you've got nicely
28:02
circular shapes all across the frame so you know if you're in a particular situation where that's a priority for you stopping down just a little bit
28:08
helps to resolve the uh lemon shape there continuing the examination of the bokeh first of all you can see that
28:15
detail and contrast is holding up really nicely here on the subject I mean that's great the bouquet quality I would say
28:22
looking at some of these things there's maybe a little bit more outlining than what I would like and you can see that
28:28
there's just a little bit of busyness um inside the specular highlights themselves overall however looking
28:34
pretty good and this shot really kind of stands out to me that just coming back for a moment you can see the foreground
28:41
Boke you know looks looks fine but the contrast and actually three-dimensional pop there looks really quite good so the
28:47
micro contrast on the lens is just so strong for a budget lens again here
28:53
background is not very strongly defocused but we're shooting wide open you can see that the detail looks really
28:58
good but I I think that the septic actually stands out pretty well there's a decent three-dimensional quality to
29:03
the image and of course really really awesome contrast which I love another up
29:08
close shot here and so this is minimum Focus distance detail looks really really crisp you know the area that's in
29:14
focus and you can see that the fall off is fine you're not going to strongly blur out backgrounds but it looks pretty
29:19
good again here subject detail looks great background really doesn't look too
29:25
busy to me and you know obviously there is going to be some minor outlining but that looks relatively soft you know
29:31
another similar type shot you can see that really the background particularly in this zone is really quite creamy and
29:37
so put it in an optimal situation and it will do quite a good job also as noted I feel like V trx's colors are really good
29:45
now and so this is very accurate to what I saw in the art gallery and you can just see I this uh particular painting
29:52
really kind of to me I love the just really bold contrast in the painting itself and you can see that the lens has
29:59
captured it well likewise in this shot you can get you know a sense of the really rich colors and then I was
30:04
intentionally focusing at the end of the hall and you can see that while the foreground at f1.7 isn't like strongly
30:11
defocused you can see that the detail there in the plan of focus is really great this also stood out to me because
30:19
I I've shot this kind of scene unfortunately because I have to a lot in the winter it was extraordinarily cold
30:24
like 20 below plus here plus wind chill and and so in that kind of extreme cold
30:30
colors are really kind of intense and often I find with cheap lenses shots
30:36
like this become really kind of garish looking they just look kind of artificial I really felt like this was a
30:41
pretty nuanced performance there and so I was happy with the color rendition there uh looking at coma you can see
30:48
that star points are crisp in the center of the frame and as we move off towards the edge you know you can't hardly see I
30:55
mean there is a little bit this one's bright enough you can see a little bit of coma smear but it's really not too
31:01
bad overall the general impression is that star points are crisp all across the frame flare resistance will be our
31:07
final thing we'll look at and so here wide open we've already seen like the pan you know at certain zones you'll see
31:13
a little bit more of the ghosting artifacts but it's mild enough that instills image even shooting right into
31:18
very bright very intense Sun uh you can see that there's just minimal uh effects there as you stop The Lens down I I
31:25
don't love how long these Ray become like of the kind of Sunburst effect you
31:31
can see that a few of these ghosting artifacts are a little bit more pronounced but frankly contrast is still
31:37
good it's still holding up fine very intense sun coming through through the window I don't see any kind of negative
31:43
impact and finally this image there's a little bit of a warm glow to it frankly I like that and so here the sun would be
31:50
kind of just out of frame but I did want to give you a look at that you can see the contrast is still held up fine
31:56
detail looks great just a little bit of an overall Warm Glow to the image which I think most people will find you know
32:02
flattering so I think you can conclude after that section that this lens has got a lot of bang for the buck it's a
32:09
really strong little lens optically and I hope that that Optical Deep dive has
32:14
helped you to determine whether or not it's a lens that you're interested in adding to your own kit as always thanks
32:20
for watching have a great day and let the light in [Music]
