“The Sacred Books”

© 2013 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

Next to the famous open square of the Western Wall, the Jewish focus of worship in modern Israel, there is an area under roof (and under a building) that houses a long room where Jewish boys and men also pray along the Wall. It was originally known as “Wilson’s Arch”, but the area has been renovated in recent times to expand the places to pray (and a place to study out of inclement weather. It houses many Torah scrolls in a very large Torah Ark. In that area is also many bookshelves with sacred texts. These are books of prayer and commentary. I captured this image of the spines and tassels of some of these much used books in there to tell the story of this warm place where Judaism thrives.
