“Unlikely Places”
© 2014 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott
Sometimes beauty is found in the most unlikely of places. This time of year the cacti in the Arizona desert are frequently covered with the most delicate and beautiful of blossoms. It is always surprising to find such rich blossoms in such a spiny, thorny environment. There’s a lot of little lessons to be gleaned from that, but let me just give you one: sometimes people can surprise you. Some people hide behind a thorny exterior as a defense mechanism. Of course, some people appear like jerks because…um…they are. P.S. I shot two frames here – one (f/2.8) for the shallow depth of field, one stopped down to f/8 to provide more detail in the blossoms and thorns. I combined the two in Photoshop.
