0:10
hi I'm Dustin Abbott sirai is back with
0:13
a unique set of cine lenses called The
0:16
Vision Prime 1 Series this includes a 24
0:20
mm 35 mm and 50 mimer t.1 1.4 lenses
0:27
that are all matched and as you can see
0:29
can get you can get as a part of a kit
0:33
but what is most interesting and unique
0:35
about this is not those focal links or
0:38
those aperture SLT stop ratings but
0:41
rather that the mounts here are user
0:44
replaceable and so what that means is
0:47
that with each one of these lenses is
0:49
going to be included e Mount L Mount RF
0:52
Mount and Z Mount options for each lens
0:55
or if you happen to get them in a kit
0:57
like this means that all of them will
0:59
come with all of those different Mount
1:01
options so four different Mount options
1:03
the four major full-frame lens mounts at
1:06
this point the mounts all have a weather
1:09
sealing gasket on them and so that is
1:12
nice that even if you swap them out you
1:14
do still have a weather sealing gasket
1:16
there and they can all be easily changed
1:19
as you can see here it t took me about a
1:22
minute and a half more on that in just a
1:24
moment with the included tool kit that
1:27
you are given here which fortunately
1:29
does in include some extra screws which
1:31
is always good when you're working with
1:33
small screws and so today we're going to
1:36
dive in and take a look at how this
1:39
actually plays out now these are cine
1:40
lenses so I'm going to give them the
1:42
same kind of you know deep dive Optical
1:44
breakdown that I often do I will point
1:47
out if there's anything that stood out
1:48
to me optically one way or another but
1:51
uh for the most part I'm going to be
1:52
looking at these more in their overall
1:55
performance and what stood out to me in
1:58
just of what I liked and what didn't
2:00
like so let's start by talking about
2:02
some of the things that I found I liked
2:05
while reviewing these lenses first of
2:07
all one thing that I love about matched
2:09
sets like this is the fact that you are
2:11
going to get very consistent color
2:14
matching and that's one of the things
2:15
that sirai and others like them have set
2:17
out to do with a set of cine lenses like
2:19
this obviously when you're getting C
2:21
footage even more so than shooting
2:23
Stills it's very important to get a
2:25
consistency of color and as you can see
2:27
here as I go from the 24 mm to the 35 mm
2:31
and then to the 5050 mm you can see that
2:33
we're getting a consistent color
2:35
response across all three of them also
2:38
what is nice is these are all a
2:41
standardized size and so they all have
2:43
the 72 mm UPF front which allows you to
2:46
do mat boxing but also they're they are
2:49
consistent in terms of where both the
2:52
focus and then the aperture rings are
2:54
located and so not only can you set up
2:57
gearing for you know any one of them but
2:59
then you can set setup gearing to where
3:00
you can hot swap them without having to
3:03
worry about uh you know repositioning
3:05
any kind of gearing setup or anything
3:08
similar like that so that is nice also
3:11
nice is the fact that they are
3:13
standardized in terms of their weight
3:15
there's about 11 gram difference between
3:17
the lightest to the heaviest of these
3:19
more on that in just a moment but what
3:21
that means also is that because means
3:24
that the center of gravity is going to
3:25
be similar on all them all or them all
3:28
and so if you're setting up for example
3:30
on a Gimbal and you've already done a
3:32
balance with one it doesn't matter which
3:33
one you should be able to swap off the
3:35
lens and get the exact same balance and
3:37
of course again the same positioning for
3:40
both the manual focus and aperture rings
3:42
they're also all very bright these are
3:45
fullframe lenses and they are they have
3:48
a a t-stop rating of 1.4 so that means
3:51
that they're actually really bright
3:54
because I'm assuming the maximum apture
3:56
is f1.4 and they've done a good enough
3:58
job with the optical design not losing
4:00
light as it's measured from you know
4:02
where it enters into that entrance pupil
4:05
or the aperture and then what actually
4:07
reaches to the sensor itself where it's
4:08
measured with the t- Stop and so uh nice
4:11
and bright that is great furthermore
4:14
these are not just full frame but they
4:17
actually have 46 mimer coverage and so a
4:20
few extra millimeters of coverage and so
4:23
what they will do is they will cover
4:24
full frame even in open gate so they're
4:26
a little bit over engineered but that's
4:28
great because it means that you've got
4:30
different options if you have a camera
4:31
that can shoot open gate means you've
4:33
got different options for your Framing
4:35
and what you're going to do with that
4:37
kind of footage so a little bit of extra
4:39
playroom wiggle room around the edges of
4:41
the frame and so obviously that is very
4:43
appreciated as well also they are
4:46
designed to have minimal amounts of
4:48
focus breathing it's you know again
4:50
minimal doesn't doesn't mean none
4:52
necessarily but it does mean that
4:55
they're all pretty good in that regard
4:57
and as you can see for example some of
4:59
these pool here that there's there's not
5:01
a lot of obvious amount of
5:03
breathing the 24 mm and 35 mm have a
5:06
high 12 blade count whereas the 50 mm
5:10
has like an exceptionally High 18
5:13
aperture blade count it is very rare
5:15
that I see apertures with uh that many
5:18
blades but as you can see here as I do
5:19
an aperture rack you can see the
5:22
specular highlights you know uh start to
5:24
shrink as I'm closing down the aperture
5:27
but what you're also going to note is
5:28
that they stay very circular and so that
5:30
is uh excellent as well also important
5:34
here is that across all of them the
5:35
amount of distortion is low so that
5:38
means that there's going to be less
5:39
corrective work needing to be do so I
5:41
like that as well I also think that
5:44
these are nicely made lenses and so
5:47
obviously I've already noted that all of
5:49
these different mounts they come with uh
5:51
weather sealing gasket there there is
5:53
also I believe a little bit further
5:55
weather cealing in the lenses themselves
5:56
but they are uh basically all metal here
6:00
they feel good uh there's a good
6:02
consistency in terms of the behavior of
6:04
the aperture ring but then also of the
6:06
manual focus ring across them all they
6:09
270° focus throw and they all work
6:12
really nicely these feel like nicely
6:14
made lenses there's nothing that's
6:16
plasticky or cheap feeling about them at
6:19
all they actually uh feel very very nice
6:22
in their build so uh it I mentioned a
6:25
very small weight difference and so that
6:28
goes from as little as 500 90 on the 24
6:31
millimet or I can't remember if it's 24
6:32
or the 35 millimet to as much as 602 G
6:37
on the 50 mm and so only a 12 degree
6:39
variance from uh heaviest to lightest
6:42
what that means is they all weigh out at
6:43
1.3 lbs and then so a very very small
6:47
variance there difference I find that
6:50
sometimes cine lenses don't have a great
6:52
minimum Focus distance but that's not
6:54
really true here they actually all have
6:56
a decent minimum Focus distance and they
6:58
all have a maximum magnification of
7:01
between 0.15 and 0.16 times which is not
7:05
nothing exceptional but it's it's at the
7:07
very least it is average or even
7:10
slightly above average and so I think
7:12
that that is great as you can see here
7:16
I'm going to show you a video from start
7:18
to finish and uh and here even with me
7:21
demonstrating a few extra things along
7:23
the way it took me less you know I had
7:26
everything laid out but less than a
7:27
minute and a half to swap with one of
7:29
these lens mounts it's literally a
7:31
matter of taking the included
7:32
screwdriver there are four philli screws
7:35
now a little bit further out on the lens
7:37
mount there's actually torque screws uh
7:39
they don't there's not a torque
7:40
screwdriver because you're not actually
7:42
touching the the torque screws it's the
7:44
Phillips that are there that are a
7:45
little bit tighter inside and it's just
7:48
a matter literally of unscrewing four
7:50
screws pulling the mount away taking the
7:52
new Mount and one thing that I do like
7:54
about the mount design is that there are
7:57
there's four different notches on them
7:59
three of them are similar size and a
8:01
fourth one is the larger that fourth one
8:03
is only going to fit in one spot so it
8:05
makes sure that you're always lining up
8:07
the lens mount in the right place and so
8:10
that everything is placed as it should
8:11
so that's awesome and so very easy to do
8:14
put those four screws back in and Away
8:17
you go it's just that simple they do
8:19
include a lot of additional screws I
8:22
don't know if that implies a lack of
8:24
trust in your ability to replace screws
8:26
but uh I count here let's see I count a
8:30
total of 24 additional screws that are
8:34
included and so that gives you us six
8:38
sets in total of four screws and so that
8:40
means you've got two backup sets for all
8:42
of them that's great because I mean
8:45
whereas I I hope you're not going to
8:46
lose that many screws I suspect that you
8:50
might lose one or two along the way if
8:51
you're not careful I would also
8:53
recommend that don't do that mount swap
8:55
in a Dusty or dirty environment um the
8:58
cleaner you can keep things the happier
9:00
you're going to be another thing that I
9:02
like should you happen to actually buy
9:04
the three kit set which I'll give you a
9:06
little bit more on pricing and just a
9:07
moment is that the kit does come in this
9:10
great Pelican style case and so this
9:12
case is it is waterproof it is dust
9:16
proof it is shock proof so in other
9:18
words if you've got them packed in here
9:20
even if they get knocked around or
9:21
you're in adverse weather conditions
9:23
they're going to be well protected in
9:25
here that's a really nice bonus uh to
9:27
have included with this set
9:29
and even if you don't buy the full set
9:32
even if you buy individual lenses sirai
9:34
zippered nylon cases are actually quite
9:37
nice and so you're always getting
9:39
something along the way so about things
9:42
that I don't like one thing that I will
9:44
say that this is kind of a general
9:46
observation with these lenses and other
9:48
sirai lenses I don't actually love their
9:50
Optical glass and that has very little
9:53
to do with sharpness and it's a a
9:55
personal opinion some people like it
9:57
just fine but what I do mind is that I
10:00
just don't like the colors quite as well
10:02
as what I do some other lenses and so in
10:05
terms of the color rendition uh it's not
10:07
necessarily my favorite now to be fair
10:09
if you're shooting in some kind of log
10:11
footage and you're using your own Luts
10:13
you have a lot of control with how that
10:15
final color look is going to play out
10:18
and so it may not be a big deal for you
10:20
but it's just something that I observe I
10:22
did note with uh one or two of the
10:24
lenses that I did see a little bit of
10:26
some green fringing there along the way
10:29
and and so um you know they're not
10:32
perfectly corrected in that regard I did
10:34
notice with the 24 mm that there's a
10:36
little bit more vignetting than what I
10:37
saw with either the 35 or the 50 mm
10:41
lenses but my list of uh criticisms is
10:44
actually quite brief because I mean
10:46
these are fairly compact they're very
10:49
nicely made and I think that the ability
10:51
to be able to hot swap those uh those
10:54
actual lens mount yourselves it's
10:56
actually a really valuable thing means
10:58
that if you do you know future changes
11:00
you're not having to buy new lenses and
11:02
it also means you can shoot on different
11:04
bodies and mix and match uh by doing
11:06
that and so I mean that's that's
11:08
fantastic and the fact that it can be
11:09
done so quick and easy it's great so
11:12
finally on pricing the early bird
11:16
$549 for individual lenses and that does
11:19
include the four different mounts and
11:21
includes that zippered case uh here's
11:23
the kit that you can see that comes
11:24
along with if you want the full kit like
11:29
$99 and so you know that's that's
11:32
actually a strong value if if you
11:34
actually want all three lenses obviously
11:36
because not only are you saving $50 in
11:38
terms of the total price you're also
11:39
getting the case thrown in there for an
11:42
additional value they say $200 of
11:44
additional value I suspect I could buy
11:46
this case for cheaper than 200 bucks but
11:48
you know I I'll give them that it's U
11:50
it's a it's a really nice case and it's
11:52
a really nice kit for that amount of
11:54
money included so at the end of the day
11:57
I think that if you're in the market for
11:59
a affordable C lenses and 24 35 mm and
12:03
50 mm suit the focal lengths that you're
12:05
looking for obviously that's full frame
12:08
you can also shoot all of these in S35
12:10
and so that gives you another framing
12:12
option but I I think that this is a
12:14
really great kit and I think it's a
12:15
brilliant idea the ability to to swap
12:18
these out like that and uh it's
12:20
something that actually has been tried
12:22
in the past and uh it's it's an idea
12:25
that's may become full circle once again
12:27
but for cine lenses in particular where
12:29
you're not really relying on electronics
12:31
it's it's pretty great and while none of
12:33
them optically just like blew my mind I
12:35
actually found them all to be quite good
12:37
as well and I like the look of footage
12:39
felt like there's a good amount of
12:40
detail coming off of it so at the end of
12:42
the day if you're in the market these
12:43
focal links fit the bill I think that
12:46
this is a pretty strong value here from
12:48
sirai so if you want more information
12:50
you can check that out in the
12:51
description down below they're currently
12:52
on Kickstarter and then they'll move to
12:54
a more traditional uh you know marketing
12:57
strategy and Retail strategy after that
13:00
but there is probably some discounts to
13:01
be had if you try out the kickstarter
13:03
that's Linked In the description down
13:05
below as always thanks for watching have
13:07
a great day and let the light in
