Hi, I'm Dustin Abbott. Over the past
0:12
couple of months, I reviewed a couple of
0:14
fantastic travel backpacks, including
0:17
the Peak Design 2in-1 travel backpack
0:20
and then also the Black Voyage Zephyr
0:22
Pro with its vacuum seal technology.
0:24
Now, while both of these are technically
0:26
marketed to the same basic audience,
0:29
those that are looking for travel
0:30
backpacks, I found in reality they
0:33
really serve very different purposes.
0:35
And so, I'm recording a brief video here
0:37
today comparing and contrasting the two
0:39
bags and letting you know who I think
0:41
each one is actually better suited for.
0:44
Now, there are some things that they
0:46
both do really, really well. Both of
0:48
these are tough and well-designed bags.
0:51
They uh both have high-end materials on
0:53
the outside that have a high degree of
0:56
weather resistance. And in fact, as far
0:59
as the vacuum seal portion of the the
1:01
Zephyr Pro, it can actually be fully
1:04
submerged and uh and not leak and
1:06
anything under that. For that reason,
1:08
both of them are easy to clean and to
1:10
maintain and no problems with scuffs,
1:13
marks, or issues with them at that
1:15
point. Another test that's really
1:17
important to me just on a practical
1:19
level is whether or not they can take my
1:22
Yeti and if I'm getting my tea in the
1:24
morning at an airport and they can hold
1:26
that upright without it spilling when
1:29
I'm wearing the backpack. The good news
1:31
is is that both of these pass that test
1:33
with flying colors and are able to hold
1:35
that in a stable position that's going
1:37
to keep it from spilling as I walk
1:39
around. Both of them are fairly
1:42
comfortable with a heavy loadout. And I
1:44
did test both of them with a lot of
1:46
weight in them and tested them over the
1:48
kind of distance that I'm typically
1:50
going to walk if I'm walking through an
1:52
airport. And while there's a little bit
1:54
of variance between the two, I would
1:55
give a very slight edge to the Peak
1:57
Design in terms of the the strap strap
2:00
comfort. I found that both of them are
2:01
able to give you a comfortable
2:03
experience. And of course, they do have
2:05
optional waist straps that you can use
2:07
if you want to distribute that weight a
2:08
little bit better if you have to travel
2:10
longer distances wearing them. Finally,
2:12
they both hold a lot of stuff. Volume
2:15
runs between 42 and 50 lers, depending
2:19
on how you have them configured. But
2:21
bottom line is that those of you that
2:22
are very efficient packers are probably
2:24
going to be able to get a week's worth
2:26
of stuff into either one of these bags.
2:28
I would buy the Peak Design if you want
2:31
a big open space that you can configure
2:34
as you like. And to me, this is one of
2:36
the great strengths of this particular
2:38
bag is that it's got a very large volume
2:41
inside here that you can configure down
2:43
further through their packing cubes or
2:45
things like that. And and so you can
2:48
actually pack a lot in here, but you
2:49
also have flexibility in what you can
2:51
pack in there. Now, that leads me to my
2:53
second point. Buy the Peak Design if you
2:55
are wanting to carry photography gear.
2:57
This bag is not really designed with
3:00
photography in mind, I wouldn't say.
3:02
Whereas the Peak Design has been
3:03
designed with photography in mind from
3:05
the beginning. And if you use their
3:07
actual camera cube in here, you can pack
3:09
in a lot of camera gear and then also
3:12
utilize some of the other spaces for
3:14
other things. And so it's definitely
3:15
more purposely designed with the idea of
3:17
carrying photography gear in it. And
3:20
then of course the whole main uh reason
3:22
for this bag's existence is the reality
3:25
of the twoin- one. And this is kind of
3:28
its killer feature. It's the ability to
3:31
separate the two sections and to have a
3:33
daypack or as I use it something to
3:36
carry to my seat on an airplane. Whereas
3:38
the main bag can go into the overhead
3:41
bin and that certainly is a really
3:43
practical application by the Zephyr Pro
3:46
if you want to use the vacuum seal
3:48
technology. And of course, that is the
3:50
killer feature for the Zephr Pro is that
3:52
its integrated vacuum seal section and
3:55
its ability with its portable pump to be
3:58
able to compress things down and pack a
4:00
lot of gear into this section and of
4:03
course eliminate all of that extra
4:05
volume that is taken up by air. And so
4:08
it works really, really well. Buy the
4:10
Zephr Pro if you want to save money. As
4:12
this bag is configured, it costs about
4:14
$240 versus about $400 for the Peak
4:18
Design bag. And so there's a huge
4:19
difference in the price point. This also
4:22
has some of the features that you might
4:25
desire, including built integrated TSA
4:27
locks. It's got a charging port down
4:30
here that allows you to remotely access
4:32
if you have a battery bank inside.
4:35
You've got both a USB C and a USBA port
4:38
where you can charge your devices off of
4:40
that without having to have things
4:42
outside of the bag itself. And so it's
4:44
got some of those killer features that
4:46
are a part of that. Both of them have
4:48
lots of straps, but lots of attach
4:50
points. They have, you know, the
4:52
integrated uh trolley straps to help you
4:55
if you want to put it on top of your
4:56
luggage. I do like with the Zephyr Pro
4:58
that its trolley strap is upright and so
5:00
allows the bag to stay upright, which to
5:03
me is very, very handy. the end of the
5:05
day, both of these bags work really,
5:06
really well for their intended purpose.
5:08
But I would say that their intended
5:10
purposes are not identical. And so, if
5:13
you want more information, I recommend
5:15
that you check out the full reviews of
5:17
both bags that are linked in the
5:19
description down below. That will help
5:20
you to maybe make a little more informed
5:22
decision as to which one is the better
5:24
fit for you. As always, thanks for
5:26
watching. Have a great day and let the
5:28
light in.
