A New Heart

© 2014 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

There are some “perennial” favorites (pardon the pun) that get my attention every year. One of those is the flowering Bleeding Hearts bush. They are some of the most rapidly growing bushes I have ever seen. They literally go from stubs to fully developed bushes in little more than a week each spring. The “hearts in a row” look is always a great subject for a little shallow DOF work. For a slightly different perspective I mounted the EF 35mm f/2 IS on my EOS M mirrorless body, which has a crop factor that makes this more like a 50mm normal lens…but with a great maximum magnification ratio. This photo is uncropped, so it gives you an idea of how useful that magnification is.
