“Good Morning, Scottsdale”

© 2015 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

One of my favorite things about my parent’s home in Scottsdale (not the one I was raised in) is that I can be at the Lost Dog Trailhead in less than five minutes. This trail wanders through the mountains for miles. I’m an early riser and I love getting up in the morning while everyone else sleeps in and catching the best light of the day. I was a little ways up into the McDowell Mountains when I took this shot. I combined two exposures, one for the sky and one for the foreground. I love the way that cacti (particularly cholla) catch the directional light of morning. Good morning, Scottsdale!

P.S. Thanks for pushing me past the 5 million view mark on Flickr. My review of this lens (Distagon T* 15mm) will be coming in the next week or two.
