The Snow Queen
© 2016 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott
This is a tough time of year for portraits in Canada. February tends to be cold and rather drab out of doors. Pale Canadians who haven’t seen much of the sun for months aren’t exactly lining up to stand out in subzero temperatures and pose this time of year! So kudos to the lovely Mrs. A for stepping up to the plate and shivering for me for a few minutes. I hereby crown her the Snow Queen. I really wanted to use the Milvus 85 in a portrait setting as I feel this is probably the most natural use of the lens. It didn’t disappoint, with great sharpness wide open (this is cropped from a waist and up shot with plenty of headroom) and beautiful bokeh. With a 6D body and an EG-S Focus Screen I had no problem nailing almost all the portrait shots even at f/1.4 (there was one miss that I noted).
