Brightin Star is the somewhat oddly named brand (I suspect this is a Chinese idiom that gets lost in translation) that has started to produce a variety of budget manual focus lenses for a number of the popular mirrorless camera…
While I was impressed when the Sony a9’s amazing tracking abilities and blazing fast burst rate of 20 FPS was revealed, I had little personal interest in a premium-priced Sony mirrorless camera. Telephoto options were limited, I had been fairly…
The Sony a7RIII was the camera that really made me believe in Sony. It took a deeply flawed camera (though with some great strengths) in the a7RII and turned it into the most complete camera on the market at the…
After dipping their toes in the Sony FE (full frame mirrorless) pool last year with retooled versions of some of their popular ART series lenses (essentially lenses with built-in adapters to make them compatible with Sony), Sigma has arrived on…
Sigma was a little slow to adopt to the Sony FE platform despite embracing APS-C e-Mount years ago. 2018 brought retooled versions of a number of their ART series DSLR lenses, though those lenses had clear compromises in size and…
It’s here! I’ve got a copy of the new 61MP Sony a7R IV in for review. This is Sony’s latest warning shot to Canon and Nikon that they are going to have a HARD time carving up Sony’s vast mirrorless…

The realm of super-telephotos has been nearly exclusively the domain of the first party lens makers like Canon and Nikon. At the sidelines of most major sporting events you will see a lot of “great whites” (Canons) and a few…
The Otus series is the pinnacle of engineering on the full frame (35mm) space, and I’ve had the opportunity to spend time with each of the previous three releases (1.4/55mm, 1.4/85mm, and 1.4/28mm). Zeiss in venturing a little further into…
Tamron has pulled out the stops for its 40th anniversary of their SP brand (Super Performance). The Tamron SP 35mm F1.4 Di USD (F045) is (according to them), the finest optical instrument that they have made. It certainly is a…
