I’ve just received a very unique lens, the Laowa STF (Smooth Trans Focus) 105mm f/2 (T3.2) from Venus Optics, a new lens company from China. This lens is manual focus only, but actually has two aperture rings – one with traditional f/stops and the other one a declicked ring specifically for affecting the quality of the bokeh. It has a bit of learning curve, but the end result is that you can control the amount of bokeh created by the lens…and it creates very smooth bokeh. I’ll be working on my review of the Laowa over the next few weeks, but in the meantime enjoy these images. check back often for new ones!

Nice images! Talk about isolating the subject…wow! I’m interested to read your review of this lens and how well built you think it is. Seems like it could be a good to great portrait lens.
Quick question. Did you shoot the product images with the Tamron 85mm f1.8? Or your Tamron 70-200mm f2.8? 😉
I actually use the Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro for most of my product shots. Neither the 70-200 nor the 85 VC have great magnification. The Tamron 45 VC is actually a better choice, though it has more CA than my macro lens.
