The Zeiss Batis Distagon 40mm F2 CF is the newest and perhaps most unique member of the Batis family of lenses for Sony FE. It joins the 18mm, 25mm, 85mm, and 135mm lenses as the “normal” focal length but also becomes the closest thing to a macro lens in the lineup due to the CF (Close Focus) designation. No, the F2 CF lens isn’t a real macro lens (not even 1:2 like the Makro-Planar lenses), but it does have an abnormally high magnification figure of 1:3.3 or 0.30x time. That’s about double the average 50mm lens, which gives it a whole new level of usefulness for a variety of different shots. I’ll be covering the different aspects of the lens in my review, so stay tuned for it.
