This is the fourth in a series of images for the week from the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. I saw this gorilla posing full of attitude. He was sitting on a rock and pouting. It seems to me that I have seen that look before!
Processing technique #4: Sometimes imbalance works best I work hard at getting white balance right and properly balancing highlight and shadows, but sometimes an image requires the rules to be broken. Instead of trying to eliminate blown out highlights, I blew them out further. This enabled me to completely blow out the background and create this high key portrait. Dark shadows are further emphasized, which gives nuance and character to the finished product. This approach only works with certain images, but can be highly effective.
Technical info: Canon EOS Canon EF 70-300L, Hoya Circular Polarizer, Processed in Adobe Lightroom 4
